Ep 22: Regina Hunt Welcomes Wild Spirituality
Have you ever thought much about what wild spirituality means?
In this episode we visit with guest Regina Hunt. Regina has been a friend of Retreat House since the beginning. She’s a spiritual director, artist, a facilitator with Faith and Grief Ministries and as a life-long learner – an all around spiritual pilgrim. In recent years, Regina has found deep connection with the Divine through spending time in nature.
In an essay she wrote for our blog she says:
“When I enter a wild space, whether a local green park, deep forest, mountain or a meadow of wildflowers hosting pollinators I am instantly aware of God’s presence, as if She were waiting for me to show up in this place. I breathe deeply to take in the presence of the living beings around me and open myself to being seen and encountered by them and I am not disappointed.”
For some, Wild Spirituality connects folks with all living things as sacred, reminding (as contemplative writer Christine Valters Painter says) “Earth really is our original Monastery."
Regina goes on to say in her essay, “Wild is being out on the land, any land, where I can feel the air moving about me and witness the trees dancing in the wind, hearing its whistle and feeling its movement on my skin. Where I can walk at a pace that matches my mood and the terrain. Amble? Take that hill? Sit and be still?”
Retreat House prepares for a Wild Week this April where retreat hosts will offer forest bathing, contemplative art practices, time with tea and other moments and experiences that invite participants to spend time on the land. Check our website for those details.
