Walls hold stories. The walls of our homes, our churches, our community buildings, and even the walls of the cells in our bodies. They contain hurts, injustices, stories of oppression, misunderstandings, things that have never been said out loud.
On March 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Retreat House Spirituality Center invites you to join us for the next installment of Conversation on Racism Let the Walls Speak the Truth, which is part of our Elephant in the Room series. Dr. George Keaton of Black Dallas will lead our tour as we visit the Freedman Memorial Cemetery and Martyr's Park. For those interested, we will have lunch at Bonton Farms.
Those who would like to attend, meet at Retreat House at 9:30 a.m. to carpool. Let us know if you’ll be joining us!
It is important in this work to be on the land, to connect with the land, and to listen and hear. Like the walls, the land holds stories.
This offering is led by Rev. Dr. Clay Brantley, Rev. Dr. Lil Smith, Kymberlaine Banks, Aaron Manes and Emily Turner. Questions? Send a note to any of those who are part of our Let the Walls Speak leadership team.
Let us know if you will join us! This helps us plan for enough vehicles in our carpool as well as lunch reservations at Bonton. Thanks! Questions about this experience? Email Clay.
“The most rewarding and the most difficult part of the circle is sitting with my stuff that comes up.
I can’t project it across the table, so I have to sit with it and let it teach me.”
- Rev. Deanna Hollas, co-founder of RH
Sometimes hearing someone else’s story, helps to free old hurts within ourselves. At Retreat House, we believe tending to our internal wounds can lead to healing - more emotional, spiritual and even physical healing, both individually and collectively. Whether you desire to tend to the wounds of racism, family and generational trauma, have experienced hurt from hate and discrimination towards the LBGTQ community or desire to explore your humanity in a deeper way, you are welcome in this conversation.
“Hearing the story of someone you’re in relationship with invites you to a somatic response.”
Rev. Dr. Lil Smith, director and co-founder of RH
SAVE THE DATE: Monday, April 4 from 7-8:30 p.m. at both Retreat House and online for the third installment of Let the Walls Speak the Truth “Being with the Pain."
