Rest. Receive. Renew - A retreat for healthcare workers

  • Retreat House Spirituality Center 110 Mimosa Drive Richardson, TX, 75080 United States (map)

Are you a nurse, chaplain, respiratory therapist, physician’s assistant, child life specialist or other frontline health care worker? Are you faced with feelings of apathy, isolation and/or compassion fatigue?

Retreat House Spirituality Center is delighted to host Rev. Dr. Paul Burns on Friday, October 20 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. as he helps guides participants through a day of spiritual care.

“Burnout is physical, emotional, and even spiritual exhaustion. It can even strip you of the thing that drew you to a helping profession: caring for others. Spiritual Health is the healthiness of your ability to have a loving relationship with God, self, and others. When we experience burnout it impacts all of our relationships, including with God.”

~ Paul Burns

What to expect?

From 9 a.m. to NOON, Burns will lead retreatants in a workshop specifically related to burnout:

  • In this three-hour workshop participants will be invited to learn nine practices that will aid in deepening the level of secure attachment with God, which can empower individuals to let go of the behaviors and attitudes that contribute to burnout.

  • Participants have opportunity to learn how to experience restored energy, a renewed sense of purpose, and a healthier approach to caring for others. In addition to this workshop you will be invited to take the GPS Spiritual Inventory, which measures your current level of spiritual health.

  • Each retreatant will leave with a roadmap to lead you down the path of recovery from burnout.

At NOON, lunch will be provided. Retreat House will be available for participants to enjoy the walking labyrinth, library as well as front lawn and back porch.

From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., retreatants are invited to stay at the house to participate in various invitations:

  • Enjoy unstructured time in our walking labyrinth and back porch, front porch, writing and art rooms. The house is reserved all day for you.

  • Sign up to participate in a spiritual direction session. Not familiar with the art and ministry of spiritual direction? Learn more.

  • Participate in a time of gratitude with Karen Hoffman. This will be an interactive exploration of gratitude practices in everyday life.

This retreat will be offered at Retreat House Spirituality Center in Richardson, Texas. While this retreat is open to those of all faiths or none, the morning teaching by Paul Burns will be based in Christian scripture and Christian spiritual practices.

There is NO COST to attend this retreat. Through a generous grant from St. Philip Presbyterian Church in Houston, retreatants can enjoy the gift of being at Retreat House without a fee. The walking labyrinth, art room, library and spiritual direction and writing rooms will be reserved for participants to use on this day of respite and renewal.
