Cloud of Unknowing: A Workshop with Dr. Jana Rentzel
Friday, May 21 from 9 a.m. to NOON VIA ZOOM*
*Registration required (see below).
The Cloud of Unknowing is a work of Christian mysticism written by an anonymous English monk in the late 14th century. An intimate, conversational, and insightful spiritual guide on contemplative prayer, it provides practical advice on how to directly experience the fathomless mystery of God — how to unite one's soul with God. This is probably the most famous work of Christian contemplative prayer in the English language, and justifiably so.
Trained Spiritual Psychologist and Spiritual Director Jana Rentzel, PhD, will offer workshop participants a glimpse inside the history and practical application of The Cloud. Through her work, Jana addresses the underlying core issues that block one’s ability to live life to its fullest. Creating space for individuals to tap into their own innate spiritual resources to heal and and live life with more peace, joy, and love is one of Jana’s greatest passions.

An excerpt describing the cloud of unknowing:
“For the first time you [lift your heart to God with stirrings of love], you will find only a darkness, and as it were a cloud of unknowing. Whatever you do, this darkness and the cloud are between you and your God, and hold you back from seeing him clearly by the light of understanding in your reason and from experiencing him in the sweetness of love in your feelings. And so prepare to remain in this darkness as long as you can, always begging for him you love; for if you are ever to feel or see him...it must always be in this cloud and this darkness."
