Wilderness Wanderings: Ash Wednesday at Retreat House - Imposition of ashes will be available throughout the day.

  • Retreat House Spirituality Center 110 Mimosa Drive Richardson, TX, 75080 United States (map)

On March 2, Retreat House Spirituality Center invites you to join us for various offerings at the house as, together, we wander in the wilderness. For those who desire to wander online, join us in our ZOOM ROOM. If you are comfortable gathering in a mindful way, please join us at Retreat House (110 Mimosa Drive in Richardson). No need to register for this offering.

This is a time to notice and reflect on our humanness, our own mortality, as Jesus made his way to the cross. Imposition of ashes will be available throughout the day.

Join us for some or all of our offerings this day:

Prayer and Scripture Reading at 10 a.m. followed by a time to Wander until to 2 p.m. - At 10 a.m., participate in a prayer and scripture readings as we quiet our exterior and interior to listen for what God might be saying, inviting us to hear. For those joining in person, Retreat House spiritual direction rooms as well as our living room, art room and library will be open. Use this time to journal, draw, paint or simply spend time with the Holy. Our labyrinth will also be open. For those that desire to join virtually at 10 a.m. for a prayer. Here is our ZOOM link.

Guided Music Meditation and Prayer at NOON - Flutist and Music Practitioner Judy Ritchie will offer healing music as Trained Spiritual Director Cathy Ibry provides a guided meditation. This will also serve as a time for intercessory prayer. For those that desire to join virtually at NOON, here is our ZOOM link.

Ash Wednesday Service at 2 p.m. - Rev. Dr. Clay Brantley invites us to a time of prayer, communion and imposition of ashes. For those that desire to join virtually and receive a blessing, join us in our ZOOM ROOM.

Throughout the day, Retreat House will open our doors for you to wander, wonder and just be.

As an Ash Wednesday discipline, engage with our grief arch by writing your prayer, your loss, your grief on a ribbon. Tie a ribbon on our grief arch. Together, we will acknowledge the realities of the day.

The Traveling Grief Memorial Arch will be set up on the front lawn of RH throughout the day. The art room will be open for participants to write prayers on ribbons to tie on arch. Trained Spiritual Directors will be on the lawn to pray with those who desire companionship in this way.

The Faith & Grief Memorial Arch provides a place to remember your loved ones who have died by adding their name to a ribbon on the Arch. Each holiday season, we host the Faith & Grief Memorial Arch in Dallas’ Klyde Warren Park.

Now Faith & Grief introduces the Traveling Arch, which gives communities like Retreat House a place to grieve and remember. To remember, loved ones we’ve lost, or maybe even other losses - jobs, relationships, seasons of life, etc. This is especially timely as we grieve the many losses experienced during the pandemic.

The Arch will remain in the care of Retreat House through next year as it will be utilized for different events to honor and remember. The Traveling Arch is provided by the generous support of Saint Philip Presbyterian Church in Houston.
