Daily Reflections for Holy Times: Emergence

Emergence by Cynthia Helton

Light: a way to see.

But is it the only way?

Does it squelch darkness?

Can darkness not bring

a pause to let our eyes adjust?

A different seeing?

A shape, barely formed,

ripe with possibilities,

isn’t seen at once. 29

It’s parts and pieces

start to appear, slowly;

a gradual birth.

Then, slowly - slowly,

the Light begins to emerge.

What was feared brings hope.

Darkness seems to make

the Light stand out more clearly.

Gradually our eyes focus.

As the old song goes,

“Hello Darkness, my old friend. . .”

Could Light love Darkness?

Light is what we seek.

Perhaps Darkness is the path;

Wisdom’s requirement.

A void, awaiting

to appreciate the Light,

the lamp for our soul.
