Adoring Loving Eyes Peek Over the Mask by Rev. Sherry Ward
If touch is communication
In this time of pandemic
We are warned not to touch our faces or eyes
Not to touch another
To wash our hands often
While singing Happy Birthday twice
To stay six feet apart
To wear a mask
How does this work when you greet your beloved daughter
After months of being apart?
When one of our senses is diminished
The others pick up the slack
One hug with masks intact then distance again
Body leaning in toward your chair
Adoring loving eyes peeking over the mask
Head tilted just so that says I am hearing every word you say
Noticing the slightest movement you make
Watching your eyes
Even when lips are not visible to show your smile
Eyes smile back and forth
Tone of voice communicates excitement, tenderness, patience, love
