A Spiritual Experience on the Beach at Depoe Bay
by Rose Braun
It was no more than a packaged possibility, the purple penguin kite pulled from the rack, purchased by one who believed in its promise. Twin soul sisters unfolded, unfurled it together once they hit the beach, the roar of the waves cheering them onward.
Slowly, slowly the unwinding began the moment of truth, of trust, the letting go. Up, up, up, away it flew, on currents of cold Pacific air a flag of victory against all odds
Lifting not only the spirits of the one holding the string but the observers as well.
We each held that taut string as it rose to new heights feeling giddy elation like children reborn, making a memory to lift us up, carry us forward. A moment of connection to something greater than ourselves.
A moment of recognizing, of believing in our own pure potential
When allowing the spirit of wind to carry us. A moment of what is possible when we give ourselves permission to let go, take a risk, fly unafraid. This moment a kite, we can pull out at any time a reminder, no matter how strong the wind, we can soar to new heights if we stay grounded and believe.
Oregon mountains and rivers, a chill in the air, a landscape painted with all blooming things waterfalls and footfalls, wide open roads but the thing I will remember most....
Us on that beach, spirits flying high as that kite
happy, joyous, and free.
